The Bentley Estate – A weekend destination
Over the past year I’ve found myself visiting the Bentley Estate in Halland for a number of days out, events and even a short glamping break. It occurred to me, that despite Bentley been recognised as a days out venue….the whole estate offers itself as a destination…somewhere you can spend an entire weekend rather than just the day. In this post I’d like to draw together some of the main attractions that Bentley Estate is able to offer as a weekend family break.
Things to do
Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum offers a beautiful, laid back setting with plenty to do for a family day out. The site incorporates a motor museum, miniature railway, wildfowl reserve, beautiful house, play area, ancient woodlands and a tearoom. Please read on here for a detailed account of activities..
Branching Out Adventures is a tree top activity centre set in the beautiful woodland surrounding Bentley Motor Museum. They offer a range of high adrenaline activities in a safe and professional environment. Activities are generally suitable for children aged 6 and up…although there is also a cafe and play area on site. If you visit on a dry day it’s a great place to sit and watch the action in the trees as you enjoy a coffee in the sunshine…and for those who want a bit more excitement…well there’s plenty in store!
Bentley Woodfair takes place on the site every September. For the past 21 years the estate becomes the place to celebrate anything wood related… craft, forestry, chainsaw sculpting, trug making, forest education, music, food..the list is endless. The Woodfair is a fantastic family day out. There are endless opportunities for hands on experiences and learning new skills. This years event takes place over the weekend of the 15, 16 and 17 of September and you can book tickets here.
Somewhere to stay
The Bentley Estate is also home to the Rolling Downs. The Rolling Downs are a pair of beautiful shepherd’s huts offering the ultimate Glamping experience. Tucked away down narrow lanes and set among acres of Sussex countryside you can’t help but unwind and embrace a slower pace of life. The huts are located a short walk from the entrance to both the Wildfowl & a Motor Museum and Branching out…so as long as you have your supplies there’s actually no need to use the car for an entire weekend stay.
So if you are looking for a family weekend getaway where you can switch off from the stresses of modern life but still have plenty to do for the kids…then The Bentley Estate might just be the ideal location.
