Why the Maldives Should be on Your Travel Bucket List
The Maldives are synonymous with white, sandy beaches and crystal-clear water. Many visitors will leave with a feeling that they have experienced something truly special. Booking a Maldives holiday feels like a once-in-a-lifetime destination, so many travellers save it for a romantic trip or a special occasion. But what many families don’t know is that the area is incredibly welcoming for families.

Getting There is Easier Than You Might Think
For families with younger members, a long-haul flight sounds like a bit of a nightmare, making destinations like the Maldives off limits. However, an uptick in the number of direct flights from the UK may be enough to make the trip worth it. Splitting the flights may be easier with little passengers, as a proper sleep at a layover goes a long way to making the journey go smoothly!
It isn’t just families that benefit from this. A romantic trip with a partner or a memory-making girls’ trip can all benefit from easier flights. A direct flight takes between 10 and 11 hours, so if you can snag overnight tickets, you can land feeling refreshed.
It’s Surprisingly Brilliant for Families
Although the Maldives is a typically romantic destination, there is plenty for families, too. Many of the resorts have amazing kids’ clubs with entertainment all day long, perfect for getting a few hours of relaxation in!
There are also some beautiful shallow lagoons which are safe for tiny swimmers. A day at the beach is one of the best ways to make lasting memories, and where better to do it?

Easy, Wow-Factor Activities for All
The kids’ clubs are amazing, but there are lots of low-stress activities for all the family. If you all love animals, snorkelling lessons, a dolphin cruise or a boat trip could be an ideal way to break up the day and see some of the local wildlife. A bonus is that this doesn’t require much planning at all! If you are looking to get out of the sun, head to the National Museum. Although on the smaller side, this building is packed full of artefacts from across the centuries. You could finish the trip off with a lovely stroll through Sultan Park with its illuminated fountains and playgrounds.
Sun You Can Actually Plan Around
With baggage limits, you need to pack smartly and avoid taking lots of clothes. The Maldives has very clearly defined seasons, meaning you’ll get what’s expected in terms of weather. If taking kids, you’ll need to plan around the school holidays. If possible, it is best to visit between December and April as the days are longest, driest, and hottest.
May to November is the monsoon season, meaning there are likely to be downpours. However, these are usually short and still offer plenty of dry, warm spells.
