Rest assured, there are plenty of child friendly activities to choose from in the capital…choosing the right one for your family is the tricky bit! Here’s our top ten family attractions with our age recommendations to get you started…

Preschoolers

Sea Life Centre – Southbank

Take an incredible journey under the sea, despite actually standing on the South Bank! This indoor aquarium is huge..sprawling over 3 floors and exhibiting over 500 examples of marine life including sharks, penguins and seahorses. The Sea Life Centre is particularly suited to preschoolers and primary age guests and it’s best to plan your visit out of school holidays as it can get very busy.

ZSL London Zoo – Regents Park

The world famous London Zoo is a wonderful day out for the whole family. Set in the pretty Regents Park the zoo offers visitors the chance to see an array of exotic and exciting animals including gorillas, tigers and giraffes. The zoo also highlights the importance of conservation and the protection of their animals providing great educational opportunities. Highlights for us included the walk through butterfly tunnel and the monkey house!

Ages 5 – 10

Coca Cola London Eye – Southbank

The ultimate way to see London from a new perspective. The Coca Cola London Eye takes you up to a height of 443 ft and is the ideal way to point out key landmarks to first time visitors of London..whatever their age. We loved spotting the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben on our recent visit.

HMS Belfast – London Bridge

Just 5 minutes walk from

London Bridge Station this impressive naval ship sits proudly on the Thames. HMS Belfast is a historic landmark where history is brought to life over nine decks. You’ll be able to experience what life was like on the ship as well as learning about arms, machinery and life at sea. Suitable for all ages although the tight stairs are not suitable for non-walkers or those who struggle with mobility.

Kidzania – Westfield, Stratford

Kidzania gives children the opportunity to step into the working world of an adult. Working city (where kids are in charge!) allows young guests the chance to try their hands at a number of potential careers over a four hour visit. There really is a profession to suit everyone from cabin crew to shop assistants, doctors to dj’s…kids can even perform as an actor in a special Kidzania theatre! Kidzania is particularly suited to primary school age children but all ages are welcome.

Ages 8 – 14

Disney’s Aladdin – West End

We all know the Disney classic adaptation of Aladdin…now you can enjoy this well-loved classic in theatre form. With all the favourites from the movie including ‘A Whole New World’ and ‘Friend Like Me’ the show will not only have you in awe at the show stopping production, but also singing along!

The Shard – London Bridge

The Shard offers 360 degree views across London from 800ft above the ground. Take the opportunity the ascend to the 68th floor and spot the landmarks from a birds eye view. This is particularly suited to older primary age children or teens although under 4’s are able to visit for free.

London Bridge Experience – London Bridge

Just across the road from London Bridge station this attraction is a great way for older children to learn about the history of London. Join the cast as they take you through the history of London Bridge including stories of Jack the Ripper, witchcraft and public executions! Not for the faint hearted but certainly an experience you’ll remember!

Madam Tussaud’s – Marylebone

The world renowned home of numerous celebrity waxworks is a great experience for older primary children and teens. Embrace the opportunity to impress your friends with your photos of you and your family hanging out with A-Listers such as Kate and Wills, Ed Sheeran and Posh and Becks! This is the perfect experience for those who love a selfie.

London Dungeons – Southbank

Experience historical London’s scariest characters during a visit to the fantastic dungeons. History is brought to life thanks to a host of actors and theatrical scenery. We loved visiting Sweeney Todd’s barber shop and fleeing the Great Fire of London! My daughter loves taking me to these scary attractions! We visited London Dungeons when she was just 7, although for many children at that age the dungeons might be a bit too scary. I would recommend a visit for older primary school age children or teenagers….and brave adults!
