5 Reasons to visit Sardinia by Ferry

If you’re thinking of visiting Italy this Summer then why not consider hopping over on one of the ferries to Sardinia travelling from the Italian Coast? With all the cultural perks of a visit to the main land, but without the chaos and stress – Sardinia offers tranquil beaches, wild interiors and awesome coastline. I’d like to highlight 5 of the best reasons to visit this magical island:

1) Asinara National Park

An island in it’s own right Asinara has a blue lagoon vibe. The region boasts miles of beaches with crystal clear waters and dramatic rocky cliffs. The National Park is also home to many endangered species and unique wildlife.

2) Gallura

Boasting wonderful beaches and seaside villages Gallura is a region in the North East of the island. Gallura actually means area of high ground highlighting the area suggest landscape featuring small fjords, cliffs and rock formations. This region is also popular for hiking and water sports.

3) Gorge of Gorropu

Sardinia’s very own Grand Canyon! A fantastically popular spot for hikers. This gorge, one of the deepest in Europe, has been formed by years of erosion by the Flumineddu River. Even if you’re not up for the walk just take in the scenery and embrace the unique flora and fauna.

4) Mariolu Bay

The kind of beach that dreams are made of…..turquoise seas, white sand and warm waters. You’d be forgiven if you thought this kind of beach doesn’t exist in Europe…but they do..and they’re here in Sardinia! The beach is only accessible by boat which makes visiting all the more adventurous!

5) Sulcis Natural Park

Just a short distance inland from the capital city of Cagliari, you can visit the protected area of  Sulcis National Park with knowledgeable guides.  Enjoy ancient rock formations, wildlife and panoramic views.
