Tot Rockin Beats is a well established family dance event based in Worthing. Lewes welcomed the event for the first time earlier in May, with Mum’s, Dad’s and young folk of Lewes and beyond letting their hair down in unison! The event is the brain child of Dan Flanagan who also runs the website Don’t Believe the Hype, home of the first Agency of Dad.
Dan believes that Tot Rockin Beats offers all the best bits of a proper night out whilst providing enough child friendly entertainment to exhaust even the most hyperactive of toddlers. ‘It’s like going to an amazing festival except you don’t have to camp.’
Walking into Lewes Town Hall there certainly was a festival feel. The large Town Hall adorned with happy party people wearing face paint and large smiles. The music geared towards the adults cranking out classic late 80’s and 90’s indie, soul and house tunes. The floor awash with toys, balloons and apparatus for the kids. An absolute feast of colour, sound and good vibes.
Play equipment and childcare provided by KidzPlay Events meant that if the urge took you to hit the dance floor you could….safe in the knowledge that your little ones were in good hands. The wide range of play equipment including ball pool, slides, tunnels, giant board games and table football were all clean and new. Bright, appealing and inviting kit that all the toddlers were diving right into. The idea of leaving my youngest to it whilst I went to the bar took a bit of getting used to…but that is the whole point of Tot Rockin Beats. The venue has only one secure exit and the staff provided by KidzPlay are all trained in childcare and only happy to help with any small person dramas. Time to embrace the freedom, grab a drink, sit back and soak up the jubilant atmosphere.Music at Tot Rockin Beats is provided by the unique Stick It On DJ service. Stick It On pride themselves in allowing their party guests to dictate the playlist….indeed more than that….they invite the guests to get up in the DJ booth with them! The idea is that party guests are invited behind the decks to play 3 of their favourite songs under close guidance. This guarantees that every song is a floor filler with full audience participation. That has got earn some street cred in PreSchool…having your very own Mummy / Daddy super star DJ!
Tot Rockin Beats is a fantastically fun way to get together and enjoy good times with both your grown up chums and young family. The events usually take place in the afternoon so your mini party animals can still be tucked up by bedtime…with no need for a babysitter! Best of all Tot Rockin Beats supports the incredibly worthwhile local charity Taylor Made Dreams, raising money for terminally ill children to enjoy once in a lifetime experiences. So what are you waiting for? Check out their next event, Dad La Soul which of course takes place on Father’s Day. This is a big one…not only celebrating all things Dad related, but also TotRockinBeats first birthday. Can you imagine 400 funky families singing ‘Happy Birthday’ whilst doing the Running Man to legendary 10 piece live Funk and breaks band, The Impellers? Well you can now, see for yourself and show the kids who owns the dancefloor!
My family and I were invited to attend Tot Rockin’ Beats in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own. Additional photography provided by Kat Naish, please check out more of her work here.
